Chicha Venezolana is a national favorite that's sold all over the country. It's a liquid version of arroz con leche and a delicious sweet treat!

Venezuelan Chicha is one of this South American country's most popular drinks. 

A lot of Latin American countries have a "chicha" recipe but they are all very, very different. The Venezuelan Chicha is a sweet and thick drink, and is basically the liquid version of the famous dessert “arroz con leche”, another Latin American (and Venezuelan) staple, whereas Peruvian chicha typically refers to a drink prepared from purple corn and is often fermented.

Venezuelan Chicha is made from three simple ingredients and literally takes very little time to make. This popular drink is loved by people of all ages; some like to liven up their chicha by adding condensed milk or cinnamon once it’s ready. What will your chicha topping be?

  1. Wash the rice thoroughly and let it soak in two cups of water overnight.
  2. Drain and cook the rice in medium heat along with the cinnamon stick and 7 cups of water for approximately 35 minutes. Remove from heat, set aside and let cool.
  3. Once the rice has cooled transfer it to the blender along with the sugar, milk, salt and vanilla and blend. Check for taste and add sugar more sugar if desired.
  4. Serve with crushed ice and garnish with powdered cinnamon. Cheers!
