Sweet potato and chipotle give this classic side dish a delicious mix of sweet and spicy.

From casseroles to pies, sweet potato recipes are on everyone's mind when Thanksgiving rolls around. This versatile ingredient lends itself to myriad possibilities in the kitchen, but I love the idea of balancing its natural sweetness with a little bit of heat. For this dish, I used the spicy kick of chipotle to give a classic sweet potato purée a new layer of flavor. Try it and let me know how you like it!

  1. Bring a large pot to high heat. Add water, cover and bring to a boil.
  2. Add sweet potatoes and cook for about 20 minutes, until very tender.
  3. Drain water and leave cooked sweet potatoes. Add butter, orange juice, chipotle, Kosher salt and pepper to taste, and condensed milk.
  4. Mix with a whisk until smooth and well incorporated.
  5. Garnish with ground cinnamon, serve hot and enjoy!
