Spread the holiday cheer at your table by serving up a delicious mug of this vibrant red wine ponche!

Tis the season to be jolly! And what better way to celebrate the holiday season than with a warm, comforting mug of mulled wine ponche. Ponche is a traditional warm cider-like punch that is especially popular during the holidays. Spiked with a delicious combination of red wine, brandy, and orange liqueur, this ponche de vino tinto is a delicious twist on the classic fruit-filled ponche served during las posadas. Slices of tart Granny Smith apples, sweet oranges, and the intoxicating aroma of fresh guavas add flavor and depth to this beverage.

Directions

  1. Combine apple juice, red wine, orange juice, water, whiskey, orange liqueur, and granulated sugar in a 6-quart stock pot. Stir gently until sugar has dissolved completely.
  2. Add the cinnamon sticks, star anise, apples, oranges, and guavas. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  3. Cover and reduce heat to low. Let simmer for 30 to 45 minutes. Remove from heat.
  4. Ladle into mugs and garnish with a cinnamon stick. Enjoy!

Chef Notes
