Ponche Caliente (Warm Holiday Punch)

Cuisine: Mexican
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 6-8 minutes
Servings: 8-10 servings
Ponche caliente, a warm, spiked holiday punch ready in no time for your next posada or holiday gathering with friends.

I could not have a holiday gathering, especially not the posada, without some ponche caliente (warm holiday punch). It's warm and sweet, with a hint of tartness from the fruit, a wonderful beverage to enjoy on a chilly night. Fresh oranges, green apple and cranberries combined with red wine and dark rum. If you have the time, I would really suggest preparing this ponche caliente a few days ahead. When you are ready, just pour into your slow cooker and heat to warm. Easy, minimal-fuss recipes are the best during the holidays.

  1. In a pot, combine the 4 cups of water and 4 tea bags. Heat to medium. When it comes to a boil, remove from heat and let steep for 5-7 minutes.
  2. In another pot, add the 1½ cups sugar, 2 cups water, oranges, apple slices, cranberries, dried cranberries, vanilla and cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. In a large pot, combine the tea, flavored syrup, wine, rum and lime juice. Stir well to combine. Taste for sugar and lime juice. Garnish with extra fruit and cinnamon sticks.

Chef Notes

Try serving over ice with freshly sliced fruit for a holiday sangria!
