5-Ingredient Atole

Cuisine: Mexican
Prep Time: 10 Minutes

All you need are five ingredients to make this Mexican atole, a classic recipe for the Christmas season.

Did you know that Atole is an ancient drink that originated in Mesoamerica? This popular Mexican hot beverage is thickened with masa and flavored with cinnamon and brown sugar. It's a favorite treat during the Christmas season in Mexico, especially during Las Posadas. You can be creative and experiment with different flavors, but for this recipe I kept it simple.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups water
  • 1 cup masa
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 ounces piloncillo
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
