
There are two infallible ways to combat the cold when winter arrives: with hot and spicy food! Thanks to Mexican culinary tradition, we have a delicious recipe for hot chocolate with cayenne pepper that is ideal for when we struggle to warm up our bodies.
Ingredients
- 1 quart milk
- 1/4 cup –semisweet chocolate chips chopped
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1+1/2 tsps vanilla extract
- 2 tsps Dutch-process cocoa powder
- 1/8 tsp salt
- cayenne pepper to taste
Directions
- In a large saucepan, add milk, chips, sugar, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, and salt. Whisk together.
- Cook on medium heat, stirring constantly, scraping up the bottom of the pan until sugar and chips are melted.
- Turn off heat when small bubbles form around the edge of the pan.
- Pour into cups and sprinkle to taste with cayenne pepper.
