Plantain Arañitas

Dress up your plantains in a spider costume this Halloween!

Don’t let the name fool you, there's nothing icky about these plantain arañitas! Arañitas are a classic fried treat from Puerto Rico, and they get their name from the spidery shape they take. Well, we took that concept to the next level by garnishing them with black olives and a drop of mayo for a spooky appetizer just in time for Halloween. Don't forget to serve with mayo-ketchup on the side (basically 1:1 ratio of mayonnaise and ketchup).

  1. Using a food processor or grate, peel and grate the plantains.
  2. If you wish, you may add salt to the plantains.
  3. Using your hands or a spoon, mold the plantains into small spider shapes (pinch mixture with hands).
  4. Place the plantain mix in hot oil and fry until golden brown.
  5. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
