Homemade Dulce de Leche

Servings: 1 large jar



  1. Combine all the ingredients in large pot over medium heat, stir until the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Add the baking soda.
  3. Bring to a very slow simmer and reduce the heat to low. Stir occasionally during the first 1.5 hours until it darkens a bit in color (should be a light beige color).
  4. Skim foam off the top as you see it.
  5. Continue cooking an additional 1-1.5 hours until the mixture is significantly reduced and starts to thicken and the color changes to a caramel tone.
  6. You have to stir frequently during the last 1-2 hours so it doesn’t burn!
