If you're a fan of coconut, you're going to love the tropical flavor of this simple but tasty dessert. It only requires 6 ingredients.

I love desserts made with coconut, and this dulce de coco recipe requires just a few ingredients and it's super easy to prepare. The end result is a tropical sweet treat you'll never forget. You can prepare it with fresh coconut or with the already shredded coconut sold at most grocery stores. Obviously, the fresh coconut will give you a different, better taste in my opinion, but they're both delicious.

Some prefer the coconut shredded in thicker pieces, others prefer to make this dish with coconut that is shredded so thin it's almost like a powder. If you prefer the latter, use a food processor to process your coconut before preparing.

  1. Preheat oven to 350º F.
  2. Mix all ingredients except for the egg yolk in a pot over low heat. Cook for 1 hour, moving occasionally until the majority of the milk has evaporated and only a slight amount of liquid is left.
  3. Pour in the egg yolk. Mix well.
  4. Place the mix on a baking dish, making sure the cinnamon sticks stay behind.
  5. Bake for 40 minutes, or until the top is slightly toasted.
  6. Allow to cool down for at least one hour. Refrigerate overnight. Cut into squares and enjoy!
