Churros are delicious deep fried dough sticks, traditionally sprinkled powdered sugar and served with hot chocolate.
Churros, originally from Spain, are served all over Latin America. Anyone who tries them is an instant fan!
Churros are sticks made of fried dough, and while they're very similar to funnel cakes, they have more texture and are easier to eat due to their long stick-like shape.
They’re traditionally showered with powdered sugar and served with hot chocolate.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 8 cups vegetable oil for frying
- powedered sugar for dusting
- You Will Also Need
- A star-tipped pastry bag
Directions
- In a small saucepan, boil a cup of water with the 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and salt.
- Once boiling, add the flour, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon. When one ball of dough is formed, remove from heat and let the mixture stand for three minutes.
- In a large pot heat the frying oil.
- Using a star tip pastry bag, pipe the dough through and into the hot oil. The trick is that the oil must be very hot. The ideal temperature is 350F.
- Fry the churros until golden, for approximately 10 minutes. Remove them and drain on paper towels for 2 to 5 minutes.
- Shower with powdered sugar to taste, and enjoy!
Chef Notes
When using the sleeve, be careful not to pipe all the dough through at once. Due to the weight and texture of the dough, the sleeve may break, especially if you use disposable sleeves.
