Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with these delicious recipes

Though we understand that Cinco de Mayo is not necessarily a big deal in Mexico, we can admire the importance of the battle of Puebla.

Cinco de Mayo is one of those holidays that gained popularity thanks to Anglo fascination. Nevertheless, as Latinos, we are happy to have any excuse to celebrar and get to socialize with our loved ones (even if it’s looked differently for the last couple of years). And what’s the best part of any Latino-filled event? It’s the food! Well, aside from the music, las tías criticonas, and the overdressed prima (for a sala?!).

We know that so many of you must be so eager to start creating things with your hands and to break routine. So, we have some amazing recipes, derived from Mexican cuisine, that you should try this upcoming Cinco de Mayo — even if it’s going to be a Zoom party.

You have to eat, don’t you? That “hot summer body” will come in due time. Right?

TACOS AL PASTOR

Believe it or not, tacos al pastor came about thanks to Arabic influences. In fact, they were originally called “tacos árabes.” Interesting enough, Lebanese immigrants merged their cuisine with the Mexican cuisine and created this delectable meal.

The recipe may test your patience, but the outcome will always be mouth-watering.

ALBÓNDIGAS EN SALSA DE CHIPOTLE

If you’re looking for a simpler meal, but still want to showcase your amazing cooking skills, then try Albóndigas en salsa de chipotle. These albóndigas or meatballs in chipotle sauce will be the talk of any small gathering. You can also try it with meatless meatballs if you’re into plant-based diets.

Making these meatballs take about 25. Luckily, our recipe takes you through each step, so there’s minimal, if any, stress.

HUEVOS RANCHEROS

The best part of this meal is that it’s simple to make. All you need is roma tomatoes, red onion, serrano pepper, salt and pepper, canola oil, tortillas, and eggs.

The recipe calls for the kitchen to be filled with excitement and intoxicating aromas. Every step of this recipe will augment your desire to devour this tasty dish.
