Hot Chocolate With a Kick

Makes 4 servings

 

Ingredients:

1 quart milk
1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips, chopped
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons Dutch-process cocoa powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
Cayenne pepper to taste
Directions:

In a large saucepan, add milk, chips, sugar, vanilla extract, cocoa powder and salt. Whisk together. Cook on medium heat, stirring constantly, scraping up the bottom of the pan until sugar and chips are melted. Turn off heat when small bubbles form around the edge of the pan. Pour into cups and sprinkle to taste with cayenne pepper.
