Ingredients
  • 1pound all-purpose flour(about 3 1/3 cups)
  • 1teaspoon salt
  • 1teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4cup coconut oil
  • cups warm water
  • canola oilfor frying
  • Maple syrup, agave or honeyfor drizzling
Instructions
For the Dough
  1. In a large bowl, sift flour, baking powder, coconut oil and salt.
  2. Make a well in the center and add water.
  3. Work the flour gently until you form the dough.
  4. Transfer to a clean and lightly floured kneading area and work the dough gently for about 5-7 minutes. Dough should feel soft and flexible.
  5. Divide into 12 pieces.
  6. Grease your hands with a little oil and form 12 uniforms balls. Place back in the bowl, cover with a clean cloth and let it rest for 45 minutes.
For the Macheteadas
  1. Heat oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Place each dough ball on a lightly floured surface area. Flatten each piece with the help of a rolling pin, and roll them out until each tortilla is about 1/8 inch thick and 6 inches in diameter.
  3. Make 3-4 slits with a sharp knife.
  4. Fry each tortilla until golden brown on both side.
  5. Drizzle with maple syrup, honey or agave.
